Parliamentary election in Azerbaijan runs transparently – Italian MP

The recent parliamentary election in Azerbaijan was conducted in a democratic and transparent manner, an observer from the Italian Parliament, Naike Gruppioni said at a briefing, Secki 2024 Independent Media Center reports.

Gruppioni, who was on her second observation mission to Azerbaijan, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to witness this important process.

She noted that the active participation of youth and women in the elections reflects their concern for the country's future and their eagerness to engage in politics.

“This is already my second visit to Azerbaijan as an observer, and I am sincerely grateful for the chance to once again participate in this critical process for the country's future,” Gruppioni emphasized.

She also highlighted that the organization, transparency, and procedures of the elections were of very high standards.

“Transparency and security in voting were ensured through numerous control mechanisms. I personally observed these processes at all stages and can say that the groups organizing the elections guaranteed their fairness and openness,” she added.

The snap parliamentary election was held in Azerbaijan on September 1.

According to preliminary data, the voter turnout in the election reached 37.27 percent.

A total of 2,196,771 voters had cast their ballots in the election, and 5,895 polling stations submitted their protocols to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan.

A total of 112,749 local observers have been registered, including over 65,000 representatives of political parties. There were 598 international observers from 51 organizations and 69 countries.

Among the 990 registered candidates, 305 represent 25 political parties, while 371 are party members but were not nominated by their parties. In total, 676 candidates are affiliated with political parties.
